A method of clustering cases that defines the distance between two clusters as the average of the distances between all pairs of cases in which one member of the pair is from each of the clusters. It differs from single and complete linkage methods in that it uses information about all pairs of distances, not just the nearest or the furthest. It is also called the unweighted pair-group method using arithmetic averages (UPGMA). It is the default clustering method.
